Set on the leafy western side of Bournemouth, between the town centre and Poole, Westbourne is a refined, villagey enclave much loved for its independent shopping and easy-going café culture.
The Victorian arcade
At its heart is the Grade II-listed Westbourne Arcade, a beautifully preserved Victorian shopping arcade with a wrought-iron and glass canopy. Beneath it you will find independent jewellers, gift shops and boutiques a genuine antidote to the identikit high street.
Where to eat and drink
Westbourne punches well above its size for food and drink. Grab a table at Koh Thai Tapas for lively Thai sharing plates, or settle in for coffee and cake at the independent Chines Coffee House. The village is also known for its delis, wine bars and weekend brunch spots.
Gardens and the coast
The pretty Alum Chine gardens tumble down from Westbourne towards the sea, leading to one of Bournemouth’s most family-friendly beaches. It makes for a lovely walk from café society to sand in under twenty minutes.
